Which years would I actually file?

The Streamlined procedures cover the three most recent tax years and six most recent FBAR years whose due dates have passed. Which years those are depends on the day you file.

1. When do you expect to file?

Leave it as today if you're not sure.

2. Where do you live?

Americans abroad get an automatic extension to June 15 to file.

3. Did you file an extension for last year's return?

How the years are counted

Tax returnsA year counts once its due date has passed: April 15 in the U.S., June 15 abroad, or October 15 if you filed an extension.
FBARsFBARs are due April 15 with an automatic extension to October 15, so a year counts once October 15 of the next year has passed.
Older yearsYears before the window aren't part of a Streamlined filing, as long as you qualify. Never filed at all? Where to start.
